We can do it! Inspired by Rosie the Riveter!

Who doesn’t know the famous image of Rosie the Riveter?! This poster, produced by Westinghouse during World War II for the War Production Co-Ordinating Committee, was part of the national campaign in the United States to enlist women in the workforce. In the face of acute wartime labor shortages, women were needed in the defense industries, the civilian service, and even the armed forces. Publicity campaigns were aimed at encouraging those women who had never before held jobs to join the workforce. Poster and film images glorified and glamorized the roles of working women and suggested that a woman’s femininity need not be sacrificed. Women were portrayed as attractive, confident, and resolved to do their part to win the war. Of all the images of working women during World War II, the image of women in factories predominates. Rosie the Riveter–the strong, competent woman dressed in overalls and bandanna–was introduced as a symbol of patriotic womanhood. The accoutrements of war work–uniforms, tools, and lunch pails–were incorporated into the revised image of the feminine ideal. (Source, World Digital Library)

I was inspired by Rosie to do this photoshoot, wearing my Collectif dungarees, which are the most feminine dungarees I’ve ever had! A bit of an oxymoron maybe? Not at all, I think women can be very feminine in terms of how they look and behave and they can be strong and in touch with their masculine side at the same time. I’ve never been a tom boy, I was always quite girly, but on the other hand I love cars and I know how to change a tyre or even fix a leaking toilet flush (weird I know, lol). And like Rosie, I know “We [women] can do it”!

Women are actually very strong, stronger than men in many cases. Not in physical strength, but in their ability to get through difficult times. But life is not nice when you constantly have to rely only on yourself. There’s nothing more precious than having someone in your life that wants to be there for you. And that doesn’t make us weak, it just makes us feel loved and appreciated!

Now back to the fashion bit of this post, these dungarees are my favorite ever. They have the perfect shape and I love the sweetheart neckline, as well as the cinched waist. They have a good stretch, but the waist can feel a bit tight if you go smaller than your size (or if you eat too much!). They also have front and back pockets, which are always very useful, and the straps are adjustable.

Hope you liked this post as Rosie inspired me to be a bit more philosophical!

See you at the next one!

Hello lovelies,

How have you been? This blog started as a personal style blog, where I was posting my outfits and make up. Lately I’m mostly blogging about fashion events, giveaways, youtube videos etc. I like it that the content has more diversity now, but the truth is that I’ve missed doing an outfit post. It’s so much fun to dress up and take photos on public places, with people looking at you as if you are doing something very odd.[more…]

So, I put on my pin up make up and my favorite pair of Levi’s jeans with a lovely denim Levi’s vest and off I went for the shooting!
Γειά σας κορίτσια και αγόρια,
Πώς τα περνάτε;
