Mad Men inspired – The Dress Form

Dress set: The Dress Form
Gloves: The Dress Form
Brooch: The Dress Form
Shoes: Fullah Sugah

Hello lovelies,

This post is about a fabulous, original 1960’s dress set from The Dress Form, a vintage clothing online store, based in Canada! They have such beautiful things, all unique, carrying a special history… I don’t own a lot of true vintage, but I intend to change that, because I love the feeling of wearing something that was pre loved and was made in the actual era that I admire so much! This dress and bolero reminded me of Joan from Mad Men, whose style I adore. I also chose a pair of see through gloves and a sparkly brooch to go with it…

The dress luckily fits like a glove, thanks to the accurate measurements on the site. It can be a bit tricky to order vintage clothing online, because sizing was different back then and the clothes were not stretchy. But at The Dress Form you can find actual measurements of the garments, and advice that will help you understand something will fit you or not. And there are so many beautiful things to chose from, clothing and accessories that you can combine to create the perfect outfit for you!

By the way I chose the perfect place for this photoshoot, which is a recently renovated Bar – Coffee place in Athens, called Kika. The furniture is all vintage, from the 1950’s and 1960’s, and everything is carefully designed to create the perfect retro atmosphere!

Big thank you to KiKa Cafe Aperitivo for letting me do the photoshoot there, and to my Photograher Constantinos Theodorou!

Vintage afternoon tea parties – Meeting Madame Gateaux!

(Dress: Lady V London)

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Madame Gateaux Athens aka Kalliopi. Madame Gateaux is a pastry chef (from famous school Gordon Bleu) and she specializes in Vintage afternoon parties. She worked in esteemed and very posh hotels and department stores in London, where she got the idea to bring the Afternoon tea in Greece. But with a vintage twist!

She will come to your event (at home, work etc) and provide an array of handmade snacks, savory and sweet, that will compliment your afternoon tea. And everything will be served on vintage china, doily tablecloths and accompanied by old jazz tunes…

She will speak to you about the history of tea and tell you everything about the afternoon tea party etiquette, from 18th century in England till mid 1940’s in France. She has also created a beautiful space in Chalandri, Athens, which is where I visited her. This space will be available from September onwards, to host the afternoon tea parties and probably other vintage themed events. As you can see from the pics, the space is like a time capsule! I never felt more at home…. Every piece of furniture and decoration was collected over the years or belonged to Kalliopi’s family.

I didn’t actually know that there was anyone in Greece doing what she does and I was delighted to finally meet her. And even more delighted when she told me she also has a vegan menu!!! I was lucky enough to try some of her vegan snacks and they were delicious! Visit her site or contact her for more info!

Vegan Afternoon Tea Menu

How to marry a millionaire – Inspired outfit #3

Hello lovelies,

So this is my final post with “How to marry a millionaire” inspired outfits. I don’t know about you, but I was drooling over that fabulous bath robe that Marilyn Monroe was wearing in the movie. So I asked a lovely lady that makes vintage inspired lingerie and loungewear to make one for me. It wasn’t easy as she told me, as she couldn’t find a band so thick for the waist, so we settled for a thinner one. We also decided to make it pink, instead of white, which I think goes better with my skin tone and hair. Also, she put hook and eye instead of a zip, but I think a zip would cinch the waist better actually. Nevertheless, she did an amazing job (she even made me a turban) and I’m very grateful! She wishes to remain anonymous since she quit the sewing business and I have to respect her wishes… (sorry ladies!).

My eyeglasses again are from Retropeepers!

So what do you think? Did I get it right? 😉

How to marry a millionaire – Inspired outfit #2

Hey lovelies,

I hope you liked my previous post and I also hope you like this one. So this is the second look I created that was inspired from the movie, and this time my inspiration was -my all time favorite inspiration- Marilyn Monroe! She was gorgeous as ever in the movie, wearing stunning outfits designed by William Travilla. She (or her role) was once more portrayed as the naive blonde, that she definitely wasn’t in real life and even though I always enjoy watching her, in any role, I believe she deserved better roles. She was a great actress, who was constantly studying and improving her skills and we can see those skills in some of her more dramatic roles, like in “Don’t bother to knock” or “Niagara”.

Dress: Collectif
Faux Fur muff: Handmade

Hat: Vintage
Shoes: Marks & Spencers
Eyeglasses: Retropeepers

In this look I’m wearing a dress from Collectif that I bought last year, which you can still find on their site. It’s a very elegant dress and the faux fur details make it even more interesting. The faux fur muff I made myself, and I stupidly forgot to wear my gloves to complete the look! The eyeglasses are by Retropeepers and are the closest thing I could find to what she was wearing. I think they are pretty close, what do you think?

How to marry a millionaire – Inspired outfit #1

Hello lovelies,

I’ve been planning this post for a while and I finally managed to do it. “How to marry a millionaire” is one of my favorite movies of all time! Maybe it’s because Marilyn Monroe and Lauren Bacall are in it (my favorite actresses), or because the clothes they wear are divine or just because every girl secretly wants to marry a millionaire, lol! William Travilla designed the clothes for this movie, under the direction of Charles LeMaire, and they were both nominated for an Oscar for the fabulous costumes.

I will be showing you three different (inspired) outfits from the film. My first outfit was inspired by Betty Grable, when she came back from Bergdorf’s with that nice (mature) gentleman that they were all so happy to meet. I got this dress recently from Top Vintage (designed by the lovely Miss Victory Violet) and I was originally planning to do a fall lookbook with it, but then I somehow pictured it in this concept. Even though it’s very different from what Betty Grable was wearing, I believe when you style it in a similar way it gives you a similar feel and looks as glamorous, don’t you think?

Dress: Vixen via Top vintage
Faux fur: Vintage
Gloves: Vintage
Hat: Dancing days by Banned
Shoes: Zara (old)

Please keep in mind that the color of this gorgeous dress looks a bit different on my pics, as I tried to imitate Technicolor as much as I could. You can visit the link above to see its actual color. Fit and quality wise I’m super happy with it. It fits me perfectly (size S) and the fabric is warm(ish), but not bulky either. There’s lots of fabric on the skirt for impressive swirls too! 😉

Many thanks to my Photographer Constantinos Theodorou for the awesome pics!
